WOLVES
DOWNED AT WESLEYAN
Dec. 15,
2001
Northern
State ran into a hot team Saturday at Dakota Wesleyan (Mitchell,
S.D.) and couldn't slow the Tigers' run of victories against
NCAA II opponents in a 70-54 loss in Mitchell.
DWU has
already posted the program's first-ever wins over DII schools
Augustana and South Dakota this season, and its win over Northern
was also a program first. DWU (12-3) is nationally ranked
in the NAIA.
NSU (6-3)
was led by sophomore guard Carin Rambow's 11 points. The Litchfield,
Minn., native was the only NSU player to reach double digits.
Junior forward Shana Theobald (Brookings) hauled in six rebounds
to lead the team. As a team, the Wolves had a dismal shooting
day from close range. Only 10 of the team's 19 shots made
were from two-point range, as layups seemed to rattle in and
out all day. The Wolves shot much better from 3-point land
(9-of-20 for 45.0 percent) than they did overall (19-69 for
27.5 percent).
Meanwhile,
DWU shot 46 percent from the field on the day and was able
to steadily pull away in the second half. The Tigers were
led by Amanda Williams' 18 points, while Randi Morgan posted
another double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
