Wolves Fall to South Dakota in Season Opener

WAYNE, NEB.-- The NSU Wolves committed 27 turnovers in a season-opening 79-64 loss to the University of South Dakota Coyotes on Friday in the Wayne State Tip-Off Classic.

The Wolves fell behind 21-10 midway through the first half but the Coyotes extended their lead to 14 at halftime, 45-31.

Three minutes into the second half, Northern cut the lead to 12, but USD used an 8-0 run minutes later to go up by 21 with 10:05 left to play. The Wolves were able to get within 13 with 1:54 left on the clock, but the Coyotes hung on for a 15 point victory.

Northern was led by Krista Rambow with 11 points in her first collegiate game. Brooke Fandrich netted 10 to round out the Wolves in double figures. Gina Goldberg paced NSU with 7 rebounds, as NSU led the Coyotes 52-34 in rebounding on the night.

NSU (0-1) will play against Nebraska-Omaha Saturday night, at 6 p.m. in day two of the Wayne State Tip-Off Classic.
