Aberdeen, S.D. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team claimed its eighth straight victory on Saturday night with a 59-54 win over Northern State in Wachs Arena.

The Wolves never led in the game but were able to draw within two points with 4:14 to play in the game with a Carin Rambow jumper that made the score MSUM 56, NSU 54.

The Dragons were then able to capitalize on three-of four Katie Doerr free throws to put Northern State away 59-55.

Minnesota State led by as many as 12 in the first half (28-16) and by as many as ten (50-40) in the second but the Wolves remained poised and fell just short in their late-game rally attempt.

Northern State did not have a player in double figures scoring but Michelle Hanson led the Wolves with nine points and five rebounds on the night. NSU's Jessi Mostad chipped in eight points and five boards while Amanda Mollman and Tia Michalski each added five boards on the night, as well.

The Wolves shot just 30.5 percent (18-of-59) on the night and were just 1-of-11 (.091) from three-point range.

The Dragons' Katie Doerr posted a double-double with 16 points and a season high 18 rebounds while Janna Davis added 11 points and six boards.

The Dragons, who rank sixth in NCAA II in rebounding margin, outrebounded the Wolves 50-38 on the night after being knotted up 28-28 on the glass after the first half.

Northern State (9-15, 6-9 NSIC) will attempt to improve its position in the NSIC standings next weekend when they begin a two-game road trip on Friday night against Bemidji State.
