RAMBOW, WOLVES KNOCK OFF DRAGONS IN FIRST ROUND OF NSIC TOURNAMENT

Moorhead, Minn. -- Carin Rambow scored 22 points and NSU hit 22 free throws as the Northern State women downed Minnesota State Moorhead 75-65 in NSIC tournament first round action on Wednesday night in Moorhead, Minn.

The sixth-seeded Wolves posted a 32-31 halftime lead over their third-seeded hosts from MSU Moorhead and extended their lead in the second half to as many as 14 before capturing the ten-point win.

Rambow, paced NSU with 22 points while Tia Michalski added 12 points and a team high eight rebounds on the night. Liza Sizer also hit for ten points and pulled down five rebounds.

The Wolves shot 39.3 percent (24-61) for the game while MSUM hit at a 33.8 percent (22-65) clip.

The Dragons held a 47-40 advantage in rebounding led by 18 boards by Katie Doerr. But the difference came at the foul line where NSU hit 22-of-28 (.786) while MSUM hit just 12-of-21 (.571) on the night.

MSUM was led by Dana Weibel's 18 points followed by Jackie Doerr's 13.

With the victory, Northern moves on to the NSIC Semi-Final round where they will face No. 7 Minnesota, Crookston, who knocked off No. 2 Concordia-St. Paul 66-65 on Wednesday night. The game will be at 4 p.m. in the Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul, Minn.
