WOMEN’S BASKETBALL INKS FIVE MORE HIGH SCHOOL STANDOUTS

SD: Northern State University Head Women’s Basketball Coach
Curt Fredrickson has announced that five more athletes have
signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball for
the Wolves beginning in the 2003-04 season.
Following
is a list of NSU’s latest basketball recruits along with accomplishments
through their high school careers:
Carolin
Becker • 6’0” • Forward • Beulah, N.D. Becker was a 2001
and 2003 Western Dakota Association Region all-tournament
team unanimous selection and was named to the Western Dakota
Association all-region team in those same years. Becker is
a two-time first team all-state selection and was part of
the 2001 State Class A all-tournament team. Becker shot a
team high in free throw percentage in the 2000-01 season,
led her team in rebounding in 2001 and 2003 collecting over
eight boards per game in her senior year and scored 18.7 points
per game in 2003. Carolin earned Minot Daily News all-area
first team honors, was a McDonald’s all-American finalist
and a Miss Basketball finalist in North Dakota. In addition
to her prowess on the court, Becker was also named to the
Western Dakota Association academic team from 1999-2003.

Miranda
Boepple • 5’11” • Forward/Center • Dickinson, N.D. Boepple
was named to the North Dakota all-state team in 2003 after
scoring 18.5 points and collecting nine rebounds per game
for Dickinson. Boepple was a three-year starter for the Midgets
and scored over 1,000 points in her career including 468 in
her senior year. Boepple shot at a 36.4 percent clip from
the floor while hitting 21 three-point field goals in the
2003 season.

Lori
Fry • 5’8” • Guard • Lisbon, N.D. Fry hit for 20.7 points
per game including 53 three-pointers and finished her high
school career with 1,062 points. Fry is also Lisbon’s career
leader with 276 steals and holds the Bronco single season
mark with 108 in her senior year. Fry also hold the LHS school
record shooting 73.4 percent from the free throw line in her
career. She is a two-time team MVP and KQLX all-tournament
team selection. She was a two-time all-district selection
and was named as the senior district and region athlete of
the year and was placed on the all-state second team in 2003.

Lindsey
Utter • 6’2” • Center • Mobridge, S.D. Utter, a four-time
all-conference selection in both basketball and volleyball,
averaged 13 points and 11 rebounds for Mobridge in her senior
season. Utter scored 975 career points to go with over four
blocks per game while shooting at a 78 percent clip from the
free throw line in her senior season. Lindsey was an all-area
pick three times and was a recipient of the SDHSAA Women of
Excellence Award. Utter was named as an Aberdeen American
News athlete of the week in basketball and was also a three-time
participant in the state track meet prior to this spring.
In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Utter was also
an academic all-state performer.

Celia
Westphal • 5’11” • Forward • Worthington, Minn. Westphal
was a first team all-area, all-conference and honorable mention
all-state selection for Worthington High School in 2003. Westphal
averaged 14.0 points and seven rebounds per game while shooting
at a 40.4 percent (152-376) clip in her senior year.
“We
fell very good about our recruits,” commented head coach Curt
Fredrickson. “We feel that we addressed our needs for some
size along with adding a couple of very good perimeter players.
All these players played on winning programs in high school
and will bring that attitude to our squad.”
These
players will join first team all-state guard Brittnee Powell
of Parkston, S.D. who signed early with the Wolves.
