TOUGH
POST PLAY LEADS NORTHERN OVER UNO
VERMILLION,
SD - Freshman Carolin Becker netted a team high 12 points while
Michelle Hanson and Sara Jensen followed with ten apiece as Northern
State collected a 69-56 victory over Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday
night in Vermillion.
The
Wolves fell behind by as many as ten points, trailing 31-21 at the
3:47 mark in the first half, before scoring the final 13 points
of the half unanswered to go into the locker room up 34-31.
The
game remained tight until the Wolves used an 8-0 run to spring to
a 51-42 advantage with 12:09 to play.
The
Mavericks fought back within three points with just over five minutes
to play but NSU used runs of five and seven to close out the game
on top 69-56.
Michelle
Hanson posted her first career double-double with ten points and
ten rebounds while Carolin Becker netted a team high 12 points.
The
Wolves shot 41 percent from the floor and held UNO to just a 31.7
percent night shooting.
Northern
State made 26 trips to the free throw stripe as the Mavs saw the
charity stripe just six times on the evening.
With
the win, NSU improves to 1-1 and will open its home slate on Tuesday
night in a non-conference tilt with Jamestown College. Tipoff is
at 7 p.m. in Wachs Arena.
