WOLVES STUN NO. 23 NEBRASKA-KEARNEY

Carin Rambow was named as the UNK Thanksgiving Classic MVP.

KEARNEY, NEB. - Michelle Hanson hit a layup with just :04 seconds to play as Northern State rallied from 14 points down in the second half to knock off No. 23 Nebraska-Kearney 66-65 in Kearney on Saturday night.

After a close game for most of the first half, the Lopers quickly turned a four-point lead into a 14-point advantage late in the half before Carin Rambow brought the Wolves within 11 with a three-pointer before the halftime gun.

UNK kept the Wolves at bay for a good part of the second half, as well before Northern State went on a 13-0 run to take a one-point lead with 3:19 left in the game.

Kearney reclaimed the lead on its next possession and extended the advantage to 61-58 with 2:08 remaining before Northern scored on a Jessi Mostad layup and Liza Sizer hit a three-pointer and a free throw to give Northern a 64-61 lead with :39 to play.

UNK then countered with back-to-back baskets to take the lead 65-64 with :09 remaining before Michelle Hanson made a lay-in with :04 to play to give the Wolves their fourth win of the season.

Jessi Mostad led the Wolves with 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Carin Rambow hit four three-pointers en route to a 14-point night while Michelle Hanson was a solid 5-for-6 from the floor ending the game with ten points.

Liza Sizer led the Wolves with six assists on the night while Rambow and Hanson each blocked two shots in the game.

Carin Rambow and Jessi Mostad earned all-tournament honors for the weekend with Rambow taking home the Most Valuable Player award.

Northern State (4-1) hosts Chadron State at 7 p.m. on Monday night in Wachs Arena.
