TOP-RANKED JACKRABBITS SURVIVE NORTHERN INVASION

ABERDEEN, S.D. - The Northern State women's basketball team smelled an upset for a good part of Saturday's non-conference tilt with No. 1 South Dakota State before being downed by the Jackrabbits 83-72.

The game went back and forth in the first half with the game knotted nine times in the opening period before SDSU took a 41-40 advantage into the locker room.

NSU took a lead at 49-48 with 17:20 remaining but an 11-0 run by the Jacks would ensure that NSU would not retake the advantage again on the night.

The Wolves closed the gap to four points with just over ten minutes to play but it would be as close as they would get falling by a score of 83-72

Sara Jensen led NSU with a career high 23 points going 7-of-12 from the floor and 2-of-3 from long range.

Michelle Hanson had a team high eight rebounds with teammate Amanda Mollman Collecting seven.

NSU (5-2) hosts No. 2 North Dakota on Wednesday in Wachs Arena at 6 p.m.
