AUGIE HOLDS OFF WOLVES' SECOND HALF RALLY

ABERDEEN, S.D. - After trailing by as many as 21 points in the second half, the NSU women almost pulled off the come-from-behind victory over Augustana on Saturday night before falling to the Vikings 73-65.

Augustana led 15-14 with 9:03 left in the first period before they sprinted to a 28-12 run to end the half up by 17, 43-26.

The Vikings picked up where they left off early in the second going up 49-28 with 16:06 to go in the game. But Northern wasn't ready to hand Augie a victory and jumped back into things by going on a 32-11 run of its own to knot the score at 60-all wtih 3:33 to play.

Augustana then made some separation in the game, once again by steaking on a 10-1 run putting them up 70-61.

Carin Rambow netted her first three-pointer of the night with :47 to play but Augie hit three free throws down the stretch to stave off the Wolves finishing the game on top 73-65.

Michelle Hanson led a balanced Wolf scoring attack with 13 points and a team high two steals. Ali Chmielewski and Carolin Becker each added 12 points while Amber Powell added 11 to round out the Wolves in double-figures.

Amanda Mollman and Jessi Mostad had nine rebounds each to lead the Wolves to a 52-44 advantage on the glass.

NSU hit just 33 percent from the floor on the night while Augie went off for a 41 percent night.

Northern will play at Dakota Wesleyan in a New Year's Eve tilt at 1 p.m. in the Corn Palace in Mitchell.
