BITTEN BY BULLDOGS IN FIRST NSIC LOSS

Aberdeen,
SD - The Northern State women's basketball team suffered its first
Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference loss on Thursday night falling
to Minnesota-Duluth 82-66 in Wachs Arena.
Northern
State fell behind by as many as 18 in the first half but rallied
to cut the lead to 41-36 by the halftime break.
The
Wolves looked confident heading into the second half pulling within
one on two occasions but the Bulldogs quickly sprinted to a 13-point
lead and kept Northern at bay to hold on for the 16-point win.
NSU
was led in scoring by Ali Chmielewski and Michelle Hanson who each
netted 12 points. Carolin Becker chipped in 12 for the Wolves while
Jessi Mostad grabbed a team high seven rebounds.
Lindsey
Dietz led UMD with a game high 21 off the bench while Jess Berglund
was right behind with 19. Dietz also grabbed a game high eight boards.
Northern
State was outrebounded 39-36 on the night and committed 16 turnovers
in the ballgame.
NSU
had a solid night at the free throw line going 15-18 (.833) and
hit over 41 percent from the floor.
The
Wolves (9-7, 4-1 NSIC) face Winona State next Friday at 6 p.m. in
Wachs Arena.
