Wolves
Finish 2-0 in Weekend Showdown
With
Top Teams.
Aberdeen,
SD - If there was any doubt as to whether or not Northern's womens
basketball team can play with the top squads in the conference,
there isn't anymore. After two impressive games against top teams
the Wolves now find themselves tied with Concordia-St. Paul for
league supremacy with both squads holding a 5-1 record in league
action.
Northern
and CSP would battle back and forth with each team looking for some
form of advantage to mount an attack. NSU found their first half
advantage in the form of their bench production. The Wolves would
put together 12 points coming from non-starters while CSP would
only find three points coming from non-starters. The Wolves were
led into the half with a 30-24 lead with Carin Rambow and Jessi
Mostad providing eight points each.
The
game would be held in limbo throughout the first ten minutes of
the second half. However, the Wolves would put together an 18-11
start to the second half that would be capped off by an amazing
shot-clock beating off balanced three-pointer by Freshman Miranda
Boepple.
However,
the Bears refused to leave without a fight. CSP would mount a 24-12
run behind the strong play of Desirae Jones and Carly Christensen.
With 3:01 remaining CSP grabbed their first lead since early in
the first half. The Bears would extend their lead to four before
the Wolves would make their triumphant run.
With
1:59 remaining Senior Carin Rambow fired and connected from long-range
bringing the Wolves to within one point. The two teams would then
trade baskets before Rambow nailed her second consecutive three-point
shot. This would give NSU the lead and they would not give it up
for the rest of the game. Rambow finished off the Bears by pulling
down two huge defensive rebounds and knocking down four clutch free
throws to finish off the Bears.
Rambow
ended the night with 26 points and six rebounds. In the final two
minutes of the contest Rambow supplied ten clutch points and probably
the two biggest rebounds of the contest.
The
Wolves move to 6-1 in league action and will be in action again
next weekend when the travel to Wayne State and SW Minnesota State.
