Wild Cats Knock Off Wolves

Wayne, NE - The women's basketball recieved their first loss in several games courtesy of the Wayne State College Wild Cats in "Wayne America." Despite outshooting WSC from the field, the Wolves came up just one hoop short in a gritty to the end effort.

The Wolves were led by the post tandem of Carolin

Becker and Michelle Hanson with 13 points each. Jessi Mostad continued her strong effort on the board leading the

team for the fourth straight game in rebounds with nine and also chipped in seven points. Freshman Miranda Boepple put forth another strong game grabbing five rebounds, dishing out three assists, and scoring 11 points off of the bench.

The Wild Cats were paced by the sharp-shooting guard Kim Hefner. Hefner connected on 5-8 from the field and ended the contest with a game-high 17 points. The leading rebounder for WSC was Erin McCormick who pulled down eight boards.

Major lapses from the Wolves and strong play by the Wild Cats proved to be the deciding factor in the contest as Northern's guards were held at bay with only 12 points. In addition, the Wolves shot 18-24 from the free throw line while the Cats shot 14-17 including clutch free throws in the final deciding moments of the contest.

The Wolves move to 11-8 overall and are now 6-2 in the conference. Wayne moves to 10-10 overall and 3-6 in the conference. The Wolves will be in action tomorrow night as they square up with Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall, MN. Tip-off time is 6:00 pm.
