Wolves
Drop Second Straight
MARSHALL,
MN - The women's basketball team dropped their second straight game
on Saturday night at Southwest Minnesota State. The Wolves struggled
from the field shooting 30.6 percent from the field while the Mustangs
hit for 52.3 percent of their shots.
The
Wolves were led by Michelle Hanson who had 10 points. Hanson was
the only member of the squad to score in double figures. Jessi Mostad
again led Northern in rebounds pulling down four offensive and two
defensive rebounds.
NSU's
downfall was the inability to hit the close shots. Whether it was
the Mustang's pressure defense or the ball just not bouncing the
Wolves' way, the posts shot just 26.4 percent from the field (9-34).
Nearly all of those shots being in the paint.
While
NSU struggled to put the ball through the hoop in close, the Mustangs
dialed in from outside and used the long ball to finish off the
Wolves. For the game SMSU shot at a 44.4 percent accuracy from 3-point
territory. However, the tides turned in SMSU's favor in the second
half when they shot 5-7 from 3-point land. The Mustangs were led
by Mary Roddel who had 15 points on 4-5 from the field goal and
a perfect 4-4 from the line.
The
Wolves drop to 11-9 overall and are now 6-3 in conference action.
The Wolves will face Minnesota, Crookston Tuesday night in Crookston,
MN. Tip-off will be at 6:00 pm.
