Wolves Drop Second Straight

MARSHALL, MN - The women's basketball team dropped their second straight game on Saturday night at Southwest Minnesota State. The Wolves struggled from the field shooting 30.6 percent from the field while the Mustangs hit for 52.3 percent of their shots.

The Wolves were led by Michelle Hanson who had 10 points. Hanson was the only member of the squad to score in double figures. Jessi Mostad again led Northern in rebounds pulling down four offensive and two defensive rebounds.

NSU's downfall was the inability to hit the close shots. Whether it was the Mustang's pressure defense or the ball just not bouncing the Wolves' way, the posts shot just 26.4 percent from the field (9-34). Nearly all of those shots being in the paint.

While NSU struggled to put the ball through the hoop in close, the Mustangs dialed in from outside and used the long ball to finish off the Wolves. For the game SMSU shot at a 44.4 percent accuracy from 3-point territory. However, the tides turned in SMSU's favor in the second half when they shot 5-7 from 3-point land. The Mustangs were led by Mary Roddel who had 15 points on 4-5 from the field goal and a perfect 4-4 from the line.

The Wolves drop to 11-9 overall and are now 6-3 in conference action. The Wolves will face Minnesota, Crookston Tuesday night in Crookston, MN. Tip-off will be at 6:00 pm.
