Eagle's Catch Fire; Give NSU Women Third Straight Loss…

CROOKSTON, MN - Eagle's Catch Fire; Give NSU Women Third Straight Loss… In Crookston last night the Northern women's basketball team dropped their third road game in a row, losing 72-87 to the Eagles. Leading for the Wolves was Carolin Becker with 18 points and six rebounds. Also in double digits was Liza Seizer with 14, Ali Chmielewski with 13, and Carin Rambow with 12. Amanda Mollman cleaned the glass with 10 boards, five offensive and five defensive.

Northern wasn't as successful in the field as the Eagles, NSU was 28-79 while the Eagles were 30-54. The two teams were almost completely even in assists but the Wolves led in both steals and rebounds. The biggest problem the women had was their shooting, they were only 34.4% compared to Crookston's 55.6%.

The Eagles were the first to score but the Wolves held the lead all the way through the first half until the last five minutes. Then the Eagles hit seven shots in a row to get a 10-point lead, and then neither team scored for almost the last two minutes. The Wolves stayed with the Eagles pretty well in the second half only being outscored by five, but unfortunately they needed to makeup ground.

The Eagles had two girls scoring over 20 points, Karna Plaine, 24 and Stephanie Mayclin, 21. Mayclin also added eight assists and 4 steals; and Plaine added six rebounds. Also contributing was Casey Francis with 11 points, and Kari Score with 10 points.

The women will host MSU Moorhead this Saturday, February 7 at 6:00pm.
