Change
of Pace sends NSU women out with a loss.
The
Northern State women's basketball team lost their fourth straight
game last night. They started out strong and ended the first half
with a 19-point lead. In the beginning of the half both teams were
playing even. But then the Wolves scored four three-pointers with
in two minutes of each other; two of those were by Ali Chmielewski,
plus Liza Seizer and Amber Powell each added one. That sparked what
looked like an adequate lead for the wolves. Apparently the Dragons
thought differently.
Amanda
Mollman started the scoring for second half, but the Dragons answered
convincingly. They went of a 15-0 run on the Wolves, who didn't
score again until five minutes had been played. When the Wolves
finally did score the Dragons were within nine. After the Dragons
caught up the rest of the game remained close; but amongst great
efforts by the Wolves they couldn't reclaim their lead, sending
them out with a loss at home. Free-throws could've help Northern,
but they shot only 30.8%, Moorhead did well from the line sinking
72.5% of their attempts.
Leading
Northern was Michelle Hanson with 14 points, three assists, and
one block. Also making contributions was Sara Jensen and Jessi Mostad.
Jensen had 11 points and three assists, while Mostad had 13 points,
two blocked shots, and three steals. On Moorhead's side Jackie Doerr
lead with 20 points. Three other players scored in double-digits:
Liz Klukas, Rollie Brenna, Dana Weibel. Klukas also grabbed 11 boards
and two steals, recording the only double-double of the game.
The
Northern State Women will host MSU Crookston and Bemidji State next
weekend, February 13 and 14 for "I Hate Winter Days."
