Wolves Beat Bemidji; Pull Off Weekend Sweep

ABERDEEN, SD - Coming off of a much needed win against Crookston Friday night the Northern women were able to get another win over Bemidji 80 - 68. Five of the Wolves players worked to contribute all but 12 of the team's total points. They spread it around with each of those girls in double-digits. This puts the NSU women at second in the conference with 8-5 record, and 13-11 record overall.

The Wolves controlled this game from the beginning jumping to a 12- 4 lead in the first six minutes. The Beavers caught up a little but the Wolves never lost the lead in the first half. Again, towards the end of the half the Wolves pulled away again and the half ended with a ten-point lead for the Wolves, 36 - 26.

The two teams played very even the entire second half, but Bemidji needed to play better than even. The Wolves stayed comfortable keeping the Beavers off by about 10 the entire second half and finishing them off with a 80-68 win in the end.

The high scorer for the Wolves was Carin Rambow with 17. Carolin Becker added 14 points, plus Michelle Hanson and Ali Chmielewski each put in 13. And Senior Jessi Mostad threw in 11 points. Liza Seizer lead the teams in boards with nine, and Chmielewski lead the team in assists, dishing out five.

On the other end of the court Maggie Gernbacher, for Bemidji, had 16 points, followed by Stacia Swanson with 14 and Allison Sanderbery with 12.

The Northern women will travel to Duluth this Saturday, Feb. 21 and try to knock down the Bulldogs at 6:00pm. The game will have the attention of a great deal of conference foes as the Wolves carry a one game lead for second while Winona, UMD, Moorhead, Bemidji, and SW State are all seperated by just one loss.
