Wolves Suffer Overtime Loss

February 28, 2004

WINONA, MN - The women's basketball team was unable to hold off the Winona State Warriors Saturday night in an overtime loss. The Wolves played a strong second half, but behind Tanisha Gilbert, the Warriors were just too much in the extra session. The final tally had NSU being defeated by a score of 81-74.

The Wolves were led by the post tandem of Michelle Hanson and Miranda Boepple. Hanson scored 21 points, pulled down three rebounds, and had four assists in the loss. Freshman Miranda Boepple had another strong game off the bench. The Dickinson, ND native scored 18 points on 5-6 shooting and had four rebounds.

The Warriors had their answer for the Boepple-Hanson tandem in Tanisha Gilbert. The transfer from the University of Minnesota played only 28 of the 45 minutes, but was able to do enough damage in her limited time to sink the Wolves. Scott ended with 18 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and four steals. The Warriors were led in scoring by Senior point guard Jenny Johnson who scored 20 points, 18 of which came from 3-pointers.

With the loss, the Wolves drop to 13-14 overall and 8-8 in conference action. Northern will begin the NSIC conference tournament on Wednesday night.
