Sioux Falls, S.D. – Northern State, down by ten in the second half, battled back to take late lead but were unable to hold on as they fall for only the second time this season, 85-80 to Augustana at Elmen Center in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Three pointers were abundant in this game as the two teams combined for 53 total threes taken. The Wolves hit seven of 20 (35.0%) threes while the Vikings hit 11 of 33 (33.3%) shots from downtown. The Wolves again dominated the glass as they out rebound the Vikings 51-31 on the night, including 18 to 9 on the offensive end.
Miranda Boepple (So., F, Dickinson, N.D.) has a career night although her shooting performance was not stellar. Boepple scored a career high 19 points and grabbed a career high 10 rebounds on her way to her first double-double. She also set career marks in field goals attempted (14), three pointers made (4) and attempted (8), and assists (7).
Carolin Becker (So., F, Beulah, S.D) also scored nineteen on the night on eight of 12 shooting. Noelle Hall (Fr., F/C, Altura, Minn.) was perfect from the field as she hit all eight of her shots for 18 points. Hall also grabbed eight rebounds, but was two for six from the charity stripe. Liza Sizer (Sr., G, Miller, S.D.) was the other Wolf in double figures as she had 10 points, five rebounds and four assists.
The Wolves opened up an eight-point lead with under seven minutes to go in the first half, 34-26. From there the Vikings went on 23 to seven run over the next six minutes to end the half leading 49-41.
The second half saw the Wolves fall behind as many as 12 early. But with 16:00 minutes left the Wolves went on a 13-4 run capped off by back to back three pointers by Boepple to bring the Wolves to with one, 69-68. The Wolves clawed their way back into the lead 75-74 with 1:45 left after Carolin Becker hit a free throw to break the tie. But the Wolves second comeback in as many games was not meant to be as they found themselves down by one, but were unable to convert, and the Vikings hit their free throws down the stretch.
