Wolves Up Four Late Fall to UMD

Aberdeen, S.D. - For the second game in a row the Wolves (6-3) trailed at half and came back to take a four point lead, only to let it slip away. This time it was in there home opener as Minnesota-Duluth (8-1). The Bulldogs, down four, went on a 16 to 8 run the last four minutes of the game to down the Wolves 79-75 in front of 2,437 fans at Barnett Center.

The Wolves did not look particular sharp in the first half as they committed ten turnovers and hit only one of six (16.7%) three pointers. The Bulldogs shot 17 threes, making five (29.4%) as they opened up a 37-29 half time lead. The Wolves 29 points was their second lowest first half total of the season.

The Bulldogs opened up a 13-point lead with 18:03 left in the second half. From there the Wolves went on a 17-9 run to pull within five with 13:03 to play. The Bulldogs battled back to lead by eight with ten to go before the Wolves opened up another run, this time a 11-2 run capped off by a Liza Sizer (Sr., G, Miller, SD) three-pointer to put the Wolves up one, 63-62 with six minutes to go. The Wolves continued to pour it on as they extended the run to 15 to 3 to lead by four, 67-63, with 4:48 to go.

From that point the Wolves went cold as they turned the ball over three times as the Bulldogs tied the game at 67. The Wolves did battle back to take a two point lead with two and a half to go, but the Bulldogs 8-2 run to lead by four and went on to win 79-75.

Sizer tied a career high with 20 points on 7 of 13 shooting led the Wolves. Noelle Hall (Fr., C, Altura, Minn.) added 16 of her own on 6 of 9 shooting. She also grabbed eight boards, five on the offensive end. Miranda Boepple (So, F, Dickinson, N.D.) continued to look good as she tied career highs in free throws made (6), free throws attempted (8), and assists (7) and finished the night with 15 points.

The Wolves will go back on the road to take on the University of South Dakota on Saturday, Dec. 18 th at 6:00 p.m. in Vermillion, S.D. They then return home after Christmas to host Si Tanka (Huron) University of Dec. 30 th at 7:00 p.m. at Barnett Center.
