Wolves Win Hub City Battle

Aberdeen, S.D. - Northern State won the Hub City Crown as they beat Presentation College 81-71 in non-conference action. The Wolves fell behind 9-0 in the two teams first ever meeting, but battled back using their height and numbers to go get the win and improve to 8-4 going in NSIC play this weekend.

The Wolves started the game cold as they fell down 9-0 early in the game as they missed their first seven shots from the field. The Wolves battled back to tie the game at 17 with 9:23 left in the first half. From there the Wolves went on a 7-0 run to open up a 24-17 lead with 3:40 to go, only to have the Saints close out the half on a 7-0 run of their own to come within four, 37-33.

The Wolves outscored the Saints 20-6 in the paint and 15-5 in points off turnovers. The Wolves committed five first half turnovers compared to ten by Presentation.

The Wolves blasted out of the gates in the second half as they went on a 15-0 run to lead 53-33 with 15:26 left in the game. The Wolves continued to lead by 20 until the Saints again closed out the half strong as they went on a 11-3 run to end the game 81-71.

The Wolves outscored Presentation 46-16 in the paint and their bench outscored the Saints 37-9. The Wolves also scored 29 points off 24 Saint turnovers.

The Wolves were paced by CarolinBecker’s 18 points on 8 of 13 shooting. NoelleHall (11) and MichelleHanson (10) were the other Wolves in double figures on the night. MirandaBoepple led both teams with eight rebounds while AliChmielewski had a solid game with seven points, five steals, five rebounds and four assist in 17 minutes.

The Wolves open up NSIC action this weekend when they host Wayne State and SW Minnesota State. Both games are set for 6:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday night at Barnett Center.
