Wolves Open NSIC Action with Win

Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State opened up the NSIC season with a 76-67 victory over Wayne State (11-4, 0-1 NSIC). The Wolves were paced by Ali Chmielewski, who tied a career high with 17 points on 6 of 10 shooting in 27 minutes of play.

With 10:26 left in the first half and the Wildcats leading 17-19, the Wolves went on a 13-0 run and never looked back leading at the half 35-22.

Northern State dominated the glass as they have done most of the season. The Wolves out rebounded the Wildcats 39-19 in the game, and had 13 offensive rebounds that led to 15 second chance points. The Wildcats only mustered three offensive boards and had zero second chance points.

Both teams shot over 40% as the Wolves hit 22 of 47 (46.8%) of their shots while the Wildcats hit 21 of 48 (43.8%) of their shots from the field. Both teams also shot well from the free throw line as the Wolves hit 26 of 32 (81.3%) while the Wildcats hit 18 of 21 (85.7%) of their free throws.

Ali Chmielewski (Jr, F, Foley, Minn.) led the Wolves as she racked up 17 points on 6 of 10 shooting. She also had seven rebounds, three assists and two steals in the game. Miranda Boepple (So., F, Dickinson, N.D.) was the other Wolf in double figures with her 14 points on 2 of 9 shooting. Boepple did hit a career high 9 of 9 free throws in the game.

The Wolves (9-4, 1-0 NSIC) host SW Minnesota State (10-5, 0-1) tomorrow night at Barnett Center. The Mustangs lost 68-58 to MSU Moorhead on Friday night in Moorhead, Minn.
