Wolves Dominate Cougars in Super 8 / Northern Classic

Aberdeen, S.D. - Northern State (2-0, 0-0 NSIC) dominated Colorado Christian (0-1, 0-0 RMAC) in an 82-34 win in the Super 8 / Northern Classic at the Barnett Center in Aberdeen, S.D. In the two games played in the classic the NSIC has outscored the RMAC 158 to 71 as Wayne State defeated Colorado School of Mines 76-37 earlier in the day. The teams swap opponents tomorrow starting at 4:00 p.m.

NSU’s Sara Jensen (Sr., G, South Shore, S.D.) scored nine points, had seven steals and five assists in only 18 minutes of play. The seven steals was a career high and one shy of the NSU record for steals in a game held by Jamie Colye.

Noelle Hall (So., C, Altura, Minn.) again led the Wolves as she scored a game high 16 points and seven rebounds. Hall was 7 of 11 shooting on the night. Ali Chmielewski (Sr., F, Foley, Minn.) was the only other Wolf in double figure as she scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds in 17 minutes of play.

A total of 43 fouls were called in the game and 55 free throws were taken. The Wolves had 23 fouls and shot 75% from the line (18-24). The Cougars had 20 fouls and were 13 of 29 from the line.

Both team shot poorly from three point range as the Wolves hit only 4 of 17 (23.5%) from behind the arc, while the Cougars were 3 of 15 (20%) on the night.

The Wolves owned the glass as they out rebounded the Cougars 48 to 29 and 13 to 6 on the offensive end. The Wolves also had 16 steals and five blocks in the game, three coming from Hall.

The Wolves will take on the Colorado School of Mines and former NSU assistant coach Paul Krueger tomorrow evening at 6:00 p.m. at Barnett Center. Preceding that game will be Wayne State vs. Colorado Christian.

Wayne Whips Mines

Aberdeen, S.D. – Wayne State (1-0) ran past the Colorado School of Mines (1-1) 76-37 in the first game of the Super 8 / Northern Classic held on the campus of Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D.

Ashley Arndorfer (16) and Kristen Humphries (14) were the leading scorers for the Wildcats, while Iva Tomova was the leading scorer for the Orediggers with 12.

Wayne State forced 27 turnovers in the game while shooting 39 free throws after the Orediggers were called for 27 fouls. The Wildcats hit only 59% from the line as they went 23 of 39. The Orediggers shot only 12 free throws, connecting on seven.

Wayne State will take on Colorado Christian tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m. Colorado School of Mines take on Northern State tomorrow evening at 6:00 p.m. at the Barnett Center in Aberdeen, S.D Game Stats
