Fighting Sioux Hand Wolves First Setback of Year

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State (S.D.) (6-1, 0-0 NSIC) took their first defeat of the year at the hands of #8 North Dakota (9-0, 0-0 NCC) by the score of 83-63. Northern State trailed by three at the half 38-41, but were outscored 42 to 25 in the second half. The Fight Sioux hit 13 of 25 (52%) three point shots in the game.

The Fighting Sioux had 27 points off of turnovers compared to the Wolves 13. The Sioux were led by Amy Mahlum who was deadly from behind the arc as she went 6-8 from three point land and had 20 points. Ashley Langen had a double double for the Sioux with 10 points and 12 rebounds. The Wolves were led by Noelle Hall (So., C., Altura, Minn.) who had 13 points and 7 rebounds and Miranda Boepple (Jr., F., Dickinson, ND) who had 12 points and 8 rebounds.

The Wolves shot 14 more free throws then the Sioux but they only hit 16/25 (64%) for the game. The Wolves committed 18 turnovers to the Fighting Sioux’s 11. The Wolves went 0-3 in the second half from the three point arc.

Between the two head coaches they have combined for 1066 wins in their coaching careers. Fredrickson of Northern State holding 593 and Roebuck of North Dakota holding 473.

The Wolves will see their next action on December 10 th when they travel to Duluth, Minn. to take on Minnesota, Duluth in a non-conference match up at 1:00 pm.
