Wolves Survives Second Half Rally
Aberdeen, SD- Northern State (7-2, 0-0) got back on the right track as they were able to defeat Augustana (8-2, 0-0 NCC) 71-64 in a non-conference match up. This is the first time the Wolves have beaten the Vikings since the 2001-02 season, where the score was 72-54.
The Wolves came out hot as they built a 37-17 halftime lead. The Wolves shot 50% (14-28) from the field in the first half compared to the Vikings 19.4% (7-36). For the game the Wolves shot 42.6% (23-58) and the Vikings only shot 31.9% (23-72). The Vikings came out strong in the second half as they out scored the Wolves 47-34 but their rally came up short.
Miranda Boepple (Jr., F., Dickinson, N.D.) led the Wolves as she collected her fourth double double of her career as she had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Carolin Becker (Jr., F., Beulah, N.D.) went over 600 points in her career with the 6 points she scored in tonight’s game. Sara Jensen (Sr., G., South Shore, S.D.) also had a big game as she had 16 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds and handled Augustana’s full court press in the second half. Melissa Braaten (Jr., G., Stillwater, Minn.) hit a couple of big three point shots to help the Wolves hang on to the victory.
The Vikings were led by Alison Adamson with 15 points but she only shot 4-19 from the field. Augustana did win the turnover battle as they only had 14 to the Wolves 22. But the Wolves were able to out rebound the Vikings 44-41 and had 17 assists to Augies 14.
The Wolves will be in action on January 2nd, 2006 as they play host to the Jamestown Jimmies. Game time is set for 6:00 pm.
