Wolves Hold on For Win Over Minnesota, Crookston

Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State (10-3, 2-1 NSIC) held on to defeat Minnesota, Crookston (4-12, 1-2 NSIC) 74-67 as NSU head coach Curt Fredrickson picks up career win #597. The Wolves are now 7-0 all-time at home against the Golden Eagles.

The Wolves were able to jump out to an early 12 point lead in the first half, but the Golden Eagles used a 9-0 run which allowed them to get to with in three at the half 31-28. In the second half the Wolves built their lead to as many as 14 points, but like the first half the Golden Eagles chipped away and took the lead 65-64 with 3:35 left in the game. The Wolves would keep their composure and take the lead for good on a pair of Miranda Boepple (Jr., Fr., Dickinson, ND) free-throws to go up 68-67.

The Wolves were led by Sara Jensen (Sr., G., South Shore, SD) as she had 21 points just two shy of her career high. Jenson also had five rebounds, three assists, and two steals on the night. Carolin Becker (Jr., Fr., Beulah, ND), Noelle Hall (So., C., Altura, Minn.) and Ali Chmielewski (Sr., G., Foley, Minn.) each contributed with ten points on the night.

The Golden Eagles were led by Theresa Crance who put in 18 points and snared 9 rebounds. Kari Score tallied 17 points and 8 rebounds while Karna Plaine put in 14 points for the Eagles.

The Wolves forced the Golden Eagles into 19 turnovers which they converted into 13 points. Despite only shooting 36.5% (23/63) from the field, compared to the Eagles 41.4% (24/58) the Wolves were able to hold on for their second conference win. Both teams shot poorly from three point range as the Wolves shot 25% (5/20) and the Eagles shot 26.7% (4/15).

The Wolves will host Bemidji State on Saturday January 14 in Aberdeen, SD. Game time is set for 6:00 pm.
