Becker, Boepple and Hall Combine for 52 in Wolves 65-53 Win
Crookston, Minn. – Northern State (20-5, 9-3 NSIC) used an 11-0 run late in the second half to pull away to a 65-53 win over Minnesota, Crookston (6-19, 3-9 NSIC). With the win Northern State Head Coach Curt Fredrickson picks up his 20 th season with 20 or more wins.
The Wolves did not take advantage of the NSIC’s co-leading scorer Karna Plaine sitting out the final 8:45 of the first half with foul trouble. Instead the NSIC’s other co-leader in scoring, Kari Score, went off for 11 points and ten rebounds to have the Golden Eagles up at the intermission.
Northern State found themselves down three at the half 27-30. Only four Wolves hit from the field in the first half and only four scored. Carolin Becker (Jr., F, Beulah, N.D.) scored 12 of the Wolves points while Noelle Hall (So., C, Altura, Minn.) scored eight.
The Wolves shut down Score in the second half holding her to just four points and three rebounds.
Miranda Boepple (Jr., F, Dickinson, N.D.) started the game 0-3, but heated up, scoring eight straight for the Wolves during a 10-2 run that gave the Wolves a 42-38 lead with 12:45 left in the game.
Hall, Becker and Boepple all scored in an 11-0 run that put the game away for the Wolves. In the game Hall, Becker and Boepple were 22-of-33 (67%) from the field, while the rest of the Wolves were a meager 2-of-26 (7.6%). Hall finished the night with 24 points and 12 rebounds while Becker scored 16 and Boepple 12. Hall now has seven double doubles on the season.
The Wolves were out rebound 41 to 40 but the tale of tape came from the free throw line. The Wolves were 12-of-20 (60%) from the line, but the Golden Eagles were an atrocious 4-of-11 (36.4%) including missing on the front end of a one and one at least three times.
Northern State returns home to finish out the regular season hosting SW Minnesota State and No. 23 Wayne State next Friday and Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
