Northern State Women's Basketball Signs Nine for 2006-07 Season
Northern State Head Women’s Basketball Coach Curt Fredrickson has announced the signing of nine outstanding student-athletes to play for the Wolves starting in the 2006-07 season. Marla Arns (St. Michael, Minn.), Ashley Genske (Waconia, Minn.), Casey Gifford (Tyler, Minn.), Allison Johnson (Mount Vernon, S.D.), Megan Kusler (Aberdeen, S.D.), Lennea Mueller (Custer, S.D.), Krissy O’Toole (Plymouth, Minn.), Krista Rabenberg (Mobridge, S.D.) and Jodi Reinschmidt (St. Michael, Minn.) are the newest members of Northern State women’s basketball.
“We are very excited about this large recruiting class. I feel we are bringing in some guards that can help us immediately and some forwards and centers that will probably be our front line of the future. These players are not only good basketball players but most have excelled in different sports,” said coach Fredrickson.
Marla Arns is a 5-7, guard from St. Michael-Albertville High School. There the St. Michael native helped lead her team to a fourth place finish in the Minnesota State 3A Tournament while being selected to the All-Tournament team. Arns averaged 15 points a game as she finished her high school career with 1,032 points and was named the Mississippi 8 Conference Most Valuable Player. Marla is the younger sister of NSU sophomore guard Jaclyn Arns.
Ashley Genske is a 5-10, guard from Mayer Lutheran High School in Mayer, Minn. Genske, a Waconia native, averaged 12 points, six rebounds and three assists per game while connecting on 60 three-pointers in her high school career. She also shot 44% from the field and 73% from the free throw line.
Casey Gifford is a 5-8, guard from Tyler, Minn. At Russell-Tyler-Ruthton High School she averaged 16 points a game to go along with five rebounds and three assists per game. She scored 1,174 points during her career and was the named the Most Valuable Player in the Camden Conference South. Gifford also excelled in volleyball as she was named to the Minnesota All-State First Team.
Allison Johnson is a 5-6, point guard from Stickney-Mt. Vernon High School. There the Mount Vernon native averaged 16 points, five assists and three steals a game for a team that was state champions her sophomore and junior year. Her team had a 114-6 record during her playing career as she totaled 1,759 points. Johnson was a three-time All-State selection.
Megan Kusler is a 5-9, forward from Aberdeen, S.D. At Central High School Kusler averaged 12 points and six rebounds a game while shooting 77% from the free throw line and 56% from the field. She was named to the Eastern South Dakota All-Conference First Team and the South Dakota All-Tournament team. She was recently named Miss Volleyball for the AA teams in South Dakota.
Lennea Mueller is a 5-6, point guard from Custer, S.D., who averaged 16 points, four rebounds and three assists per game. Mueller, the most valuable player in the 2006 Lakota Nation Invitational Basketball Tournament, has not only been all-state in basketball but has been All-State in choir for the past three year at Custer High School.
Krissy O’Toole is a 6-1, center from Plymouth, Minn. O’Toole, an all-conference player at Wayzata High School, averaged 12 points and eight rebounds a game at a Minnesota Class 4A school, while shooting 46% from the field. She also plays for the Minnesota Metro Stars AAU team.
Krista Rabenberg is a 6-5, center from Mobridge, S.D. Rabenberg helped lead Mobridge High School to a second place finish in the 2006 State A Basketball Tournament. She averaged 19 points, 11 rebounds, and six blocked shots per game and was named to the All-State and All-Tournament teams. She was also a three year all-conference performer in volleyball.
Jodi Reinschmidt is a 5-10, forward from St. Michael-Albertville High School. Reinschmidt, a St. Michael native, averaged 16 points, nine rebounds, and three steals per game on her way to totaling 1,128 career points. Reinschmidt helped lead her team to a fourth place finish in the Minnesota State 3A Tournament and was named to the All-Tournament Team. She was also named the Most Valuable Player of the Rum River Conference in 2005. Jodi is the niece of former NSU Track and Cross Country All-American Lenae Reinschmidt.
Northern State women’s basketball finished the 2005-06 season with a 25-7 overall record and a 11-3 mark in the NSIC, good enough for second place. The Wolves, who lose only three seniors, advanced to their first ever NSIC Championship game and made the NCAA North Central Region Semifinals.
