Wolves Make It 3-0 At Home

- A flurry of three-pointers and a strong shooting performance gave the 13th-ranked NSU women's basketball team their third straight home win Saturday night at Wachs Arena. The Wolves hit 11 three's and shot 43.4% from the field as they downed Black Hills State 77-53.
The Wolves jumped out to a quick 14-4 lead after hitting three straight shots from beyond the arc. They shot 48.3% from the field and 50.0% from long range in the first half, maintaining a double digit lead for the majority of the first 20 minutes. The Yellow Jackets hit just 9-of-32 shots for a slim 28.1% field goal percentage. Jaclyn Arns poured in 11 first half points, while Miranda Boepple nabbed 10 boards as the Wolves took a 42-27 lead at the half.
Early in the second half, Amanda Glenz kicked the ball out to Miranda Boepple for a long two-pointer to push NSU's lead to 20 points, 53-33 with 16 minutes to play. Just minutes later the lead went to 30 as Kimberly Lewis sunk a three-pointer. The Yellow Jackets would battle back to within 20 points, but the Wolves hung tight for the 77-53 win.
The Wolves were led in scoring by three players with 14 points each. Allison Johnson hit 3-of-5 long range shots on her way to a career high mark of 14 points, while Boepple posted her second double double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Becker's 14 points drew her to within two baskets of reaching 1,000 career points (currently 996). Becker also had nine rebounds. Jaclyn Arns marked a career high 12 points after hitting 3-of-4 threes. Melissa Braaten led NSU with five assists. The Wolves received playing time from 18 players.
Black Hills State was led by Lacey Haughian with 18 points after shooting 8-of-11 from the field. Brittney Klipfel added another 10 points and led the Yellow Jackets with seven rebounds. BHSU shot 33.9% from the field, turned the ball over 18 times, and pulled down 37 rebounds.
The win sets NSU's overall record at 10-1 on the season. BHSU falls to 8-5 overall. The Wolves will return to action on Monday as they travel to Sioux Falls for a non-conference match-up with NCC affiliate South Dakota.
