Northern Women Tabbed Third In Preseason Poll

ABERDEEN, S.D. - Northern State's women's basketball team was picked to finish in a tie with Bemidji State for third in the NSIC in the 2007-08 NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Concordia-St. Paul was tabbed unanimously as the preseason favorite. The Wolves went 20-9 overall last season and finished third in the NSIC with a 12-6 record.

Northern State and Bemidji State each received 62 points in the Preseason Coaches' Poll. Concordia-St. Paul received nine first place bids to sweep the voting (coaches cannot vote for their own team) and come out on top with 90 points. The Golden Bears were the NSIC regular season and tournament champions last season. MSU Moorhead, who finished second in the NSIC in 2006-07, received 82 points for second place in the poll.

CSP's Amanda Behnke was named the Preseason Player of the Year. Behnke was the NSIC Player of the Year in 2006-07 and set Concordia's single-season scoring record with 551 points and led the league in scoring with 17.2 points per game. NSU's Noelle Hall (C, 6-1, Sr., Altura, Minn.) was this year's player to watch for the Wolves. Hall is a three-time NSIC First Team All-Conference player who averaged 14.4 points and 7.7 rebounds per game last season.

The Wolves open the 2007-08 season with games against the Colorado School of Mines and Colorado Christian at the Wildcat Invite November 16-17 in Wayne, Neb. They host the University of North Dakota on November 20 at 6:00 pm in Wachs Arena.
