Hohenecker

By earning all-American honors eight times in her career, Amy (Von Wald) Hohenecker holds the distinction more than any track & field athlete in Northern State history.

Hohenecker was an all-American in the 4x100 relay, the sprint medley relay and the 400 meter dash twice during the outdoor season and earned a top six finish nationally in the indoor 600 yard run twice and the indoor 440 yard dash twice. Hohenecker was also a 25-time all-district and 30-time all-conference athlete and held 13 indoor records (8 individual, 5 relay) and five outdoor records (2 individual, 3 relay) at NSU.

Hohenecker was the MVP for track all four years at Northern and was NSU’s most valuable female athlete in 1993. She received the South Dakota Sportswriter Association’s College Female Athlete of the Year award in 1993 and, in 2000, was named NSU’s best female track athlete of the century.

Hohenecker helped to guide the Northern State women’s track & field team to NSC team championships in 1992 (outdoor) and 1993 (indoor and outdoor) while earning the leagues most valuable athlete award four times.

Hohenecker is currently an elementary teacher at John Ireland School in Eden Prairie, Minn. She and her husband Bill have one son, Tyson (1).
