Karmen (King) Johnson

1982-86

Karmen (King) Johnson, the 1985-86 Hildred Wolfe Outstanding Athlete, participated in basketball, track and cross-country from 1982-86.  She set the NSU record for 100-meter hurdles ­ 14.41 (outdoor - 1985); 400 intermediate hurdles ­ 1:02:34 (outdoor 1984); and the 60-yard hurdles ­ 9.14 (indoor ­ 1983).  She was also a four-time 100-meter hurdler and three-time intermediate hurdler at the NAIA district 12 championships and was undefeated for both the 100 & 400-meter hurdles during the 1984-1986 regular seasons.  
Johnson qualified three times for the NAIA National cross-country meet in Kenosha, WI. She was an All-American in Outdoor Track & Field in 1984 as she took third place in the 400 intermediate hurdles at the NAIA National Track meet in Charleston, West Virginia. She also was a four-time qualifier for the NAIA Outdoor National Track & Field Meet.

 
Johnson¹s cross-country teams were the NAIA district champions in 1984-85 and 1985-86 and NAIA District 12 Outdoor Track Champions from 1983 to 1986.  Her 1986 track team was also the Northern Sun Conference Team Champions.


Johnson has taught in four different school districts instructing Physical Education, Adaptive Physical Education, and Special Education.  She currently works for the Bennett County School District as K-6 Physical Educator and Part-time Special Education instructor. She is also the assistant high school girl’s basketball coach for the Bennett County Lady Warriors.


Karmen has been married for fifteen years to Wayne Johnson. They reside in Martin, SD and have three children, Nolan (14), Natalie (12) and Newt (9).
