North Central Region Meet Results

VERMILLION, S.D. – The 2007 North Central Region Cross Country meet has concluded and the Wolves have wrapped up team competition for the season. The NSU men's team finished in 15th place, with just a two minute difference between the 8th place team through their time of 2:50:01. The women's team took 19th place with a team mark of 2:01:18. WINONA, Minn. – The Northern State men's cross country team finished in third place at the 2007 NSIC Cross Country Championships, held Saturday, October 20 in Winona, Minn. The Wolves had three runners finish among the top 11 and finished just behind Wayne State (64) with 68 points. For the second consecutive season, MSU Moorhead won the NSIC title. Danny Scott took fifth place overall with a time of 26:20.5.
The women's team took sixth place at the Championships. Jenny Baus was the top finisher for the Wolves, placing 17th overall with a time of 24:13.00. With a team score of 50, MSU Moorhead edged out 2006 title holders Wayne State (55).

Jenny Baus

Baus became the third woman on the NSU team to be the #1 runner this fall. Jenny was the first runner to finish the 2007 Roe Granger placing 5th and covering the 5K distance in 20:13. This was a :52 second improvement on her time from the 2006 Roe Granger where Baus went on to finish 6th at the NSIC Championship.
Matt Walberg
Junior, Aberdeen, S.D.
Walberg was the second NSU athlete to finish the 2007 Roe Granger, placing 6th overall and completing the 8K course in 26:52, just :03 behind teammate Danny Scott. After redshirting the 2006 season due to illness, Matt is starting to regain is form and conditioning.
Wolves At Roy Griak Invite

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Northern State cross country teams finished competition at the U of M Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday, September 29 with the men placing 20th and the women placing 22nd. NSU's top finishers were Danny Scott (Jr., Watertown, S.D.) with a time of 27:36 (72nd place out of 257 runners) and Kari Linnemann (Fr., Volga, S.D.) with a time of 25:18 (97th place out of 283 runners). ST. PAUL, Minn. – Northern State junior cross country runner Danny Scott (Watertown, S.D.) has been named NSIC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, as announced today by the NSIC office. Scott led the Wolves to a 12th place finish, placing 57th in a field of 24 teams and 269 runners. Scott completed the difficult Pioneers Park course in 26:56.75 and was the top NSIC runner in the field. The Woody Greeno Invite had NCAA DI teams and several NCAA DII teams ranked nationally and regionally.

In her first big race experience, Fritz led the Wolves to an 11th place finish, placing 62nd in a field of 24 teams and 223 runners. Toni completed the difficult Pioneers Park course in 24:16.75 and had the second best time among NSIC runners. The Woody Greeno Invite had NCAA DI teams and several ranked teams in the NCAA II. The Wolves beat out regionally-ranked #8 Colorado Mines and finished right behind defending NSIC champion Wayne State, who is ranked 10th regionally.

Women's Cross Country Team Receives Academic Honors

METAINIE, La. – The Northern State women's cross country team earned Academic All-American status, as announced by the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). This is the 12th consecutive year that the women's team has received the honor. Full Release
2006 Cross Country Wrap-Up

ABERDEEN, SD – The 2006 Northern State University Wolves Cross Country program started off with a pre-season team camp in the Black Hills August 23-26. The main emphasis being for new head cross country coach Shawn Wheelock and his team to get to know one another, train, and have fun. 21 Fall Athletes Named All-Academic

ABERDEEN, SD – The Northern Sun Intercollegiate office has released this year's 2006 NSIC All-Academic Team. Northern State had 21 fall sport athletes named to the list. To be eligible for this honor, the student-athlete must be a member of the varsity traveling team and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better. Furthermore, the student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing at the institution represented with one full year completed at that particular institution. Full Release
