BURNS NAMED NSIC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Minneapolis, Minn. - Northern State sophomore Deacon Burns (Brownwood, Tex.) was named as the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Special Teams Player of the Week. The announcement came from the league office in Minneapolis, Minn. on Monday.

Burns, a 5-7, 190-pound running back/kick return specialist, returned five kickoffs for 125 yards (25.0 ypr) and one punt for 15 yards (15.0 ypr) in Northern State’s 48-42 loss to Bemidji State on Saturday.

On the year, Burns has returned 12 punts for a 9.9 yard average and 21 kickoffs for a 20.4 yard average. He has also compiled 394 rushing yards and 293 receiving yards and ranks 14th in the nation in all-purpose yards.

Northern State, 5-3, 3-2 NSIC, will travel to Minnesota State Moorhead on Saturday.
