THREE WOLVES HONORED BY NSIC AS TOP WEEKLY PLAYERS

ABERDEEN, SD - The Northern State football team boasted three Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Players of the Week as Ronnie Cruz, Jason Carson and Owen Olson were all honored by the NSIC as offensive, defensive and special teams players of the week, respectively, for their performances in Northern State’s 51-14 win over Minnesota, Crookston on Saturday.

Cruz, a 6-1, 235-pound, senior, running back from Kelseyville, Calif., ran for a career high 260 yards and two touchdowns and fell just 18 yards shy of NSU’s single game rushing record of 278 yards. Cruz also caught three passes for 28 yards on the day, as well.

Carson, a 5-10, 205-pound, senior, linebacker from Hacienda Heights, Calif., led the NSU defense with 11 tackles including six solo stops and two takedowns for a loss. Carson spearheaded a defense that allowed just 46 yards rushing to the NSIC’s top ground game.

Olson, a 5-11, 185-pound, senior, kicker from Denver, Colo., made good on three-field goal attempts and was a perfect 6-for-6 in PATs, as well. Included in Olson’s field goals was a career high tying 42-yarder.

Northern State (5-1, 3-0 NSIC) will play at Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday in a battle of the NSIC’s last remaining undefeated teams in league play.
