ABERDEEN, S.D. - Two Northern State soccer players have been named on the 2007 Daktronics NCAA II Women's Soccer All-Central Region Team. Senior defender Kira Wannebo and freshman forward Maggie Fedor both made the First Team, which is comprised of 11 players. As members of the First Team, both Wannebo and Fedor will be in the running for All-American status. Full Story
Grace Makes Academic All-District Team

ABERDEEN, S.D. - Northern State's Catherine Grace was named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District women's soccer Second Team, as announced Nov. 1 by CoSIDA. The district named 13 student-athletes to the first team, ten to the second team, and 11 to the third team. Full Story

Northern Eliminated In Shootout

ABERDEEN, S.D. - In the semifinal matchup of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tournament, the sixth seeded Minnesota State Moorhead Dragons were able to outlast second seeded Northern State University in a shootout, six to five. ABERDEEN, S.D. - The Wolves nearly swept the NSIC soccer honors for 2007, with Kira Wannebo named Defensive Player of the Year, Maggie Fedor the Newcomer of the Year, and Steve Kehm named Coach of the Year. Northern had four players named to the All-Northern Sun Conference teams, as released by the NSIC office October 31. Full Story

Wolves Pass Golden Bears Into NSIC Semis

ABERDEEN, S.D. - A goal in each half and another shutout gave the Northern State soccer team a 2-0 win over Concordia-St. Paul in the first round of the 2007 NSIC Soccer Tournament Wednesday afternoon. The win sends the Wolves (15-4-2) to the semifinal round, where they will face off with MSU Moorhead. The game will be played at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 3. Full Story

NSU Suffers First Conference Defeat

ABERDEEN, S.D. - The Northern State Wolves (12-3-2, 5-1-1 NSIC) experienced their first defeat in NSIC conference play losing to the University of Mary (11-6-0, 6-3-0 NSIC) in their last regular season game. The University of Mary Marauders defeated the Wolves 1-0. The only goal of the game was scored by Mary's freshman forward Megan Wilson in the 31st minute of the game.Full Story

ABERDEEN, S.D. - Northern State sophomore Summer Swan was the leading offensive threat for the NSU soccer team last week and has been named Co-Offensive Player of the Week by the Northern Sun Conference office. Swan led the Wolves to a 2-0 record last week with wins over Minnesota, Crookston and Bemidji State. A win or tie this Saturday against the University of Mary will give NSU the NSIC Regular Season Championship. Full Story

Swan Header Gives Wolves Another 1-0 Win

ABERDEEN, S.D. - 1-0 wins have become the prototype for the Northern State soccer team and Sunday's game proved no different. After 82 minutes of scoreless play against Bemidji State, Summer Swan put a header across the goal line and the Wolves closed out a single-score game with a 1-0 win, their fifth of the year. Northern continues to lead the NSIC standings with a 7-0-1 league mark and is 14-3-2 with one game remaining in the regular season. Bemidji State is 8-7-3 overall with a 4-2-1 NSIC record. Northern Takes Down Eagles 5-0

ABERDEEN, S.D. - Five different Wolves saw scoring action in Saturday's 5-0 win over the University of Minnesota, Crookston (5-12, 2-4 NSIC). Northern State out-shot the Golden Eagles 16-6 and had 11 shots on goal in the win, which improved the team to 13-3-2 overall and 6-0-1 in the league. ST. PAUL, Minn. - Northern State junior goalkeeper Catherine Grace has been named NSIC Defensive Player of the Week, as announced today by the NSIC office. Grace did not allow a goal in over 160 minutes played last week and helped the Wolves earn two wins to maintain a lead in the league standings. Northern is 12-3-2 overall and 5-0-1 in NSIC play. This is the third straight game that the Wolves have finished with a 1-0 win; they have won by a single goal 1-0 score in four of their five last games. MOORHEAD, Minn. - The Wolves soccer team pulled off a 1-0 win over MSU Moorhead in double overtime on Saturday afternoon. NSU freshman Maggie Fedor (MF, Monticello, Minn.) gave the Wolves the game winner to end the game. The Wolves maintain their lead in the NSIC with a 4-0-1 league record. They are 11-3-2 overall. INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Northern State soccer team received a sixth place ranking in this week's NCAA Division II Regional Poll, as released by the NCAA. The Wolves earned the ranking after recently defeating then-ranked #14 Winona State and having won or tied their last six opponents. NSU is 8-3-2 overall and in the Central Region. The Wolves need to stay in the top six in the region to advance to the NCAA Tournament. Full Story

ABERDEEN, S.D. - Kati Bronson put a penalty kick in the lower right corner of the net to give the Wolves a 1-0 edge over Southwest Minnesota State Sunday afternoon at Jerde Field. The goal came in the final minute of the battle, as the game went scoreless through the first 89 minutes of play. ABERDEEN, S.D. - In the first of their two games on Gypsy Days 2007 weekend, the Northern State University Wolves (9-3-2, 2-0-1 NSIC) dominated the Wayne State College Wildcats (0-9-2, 0-3-0 NSIC), winning by a score of 6-0. In the very first minute of play, senior forward Larissa Strychun put an unassisted shot into the back of the net, scoring her first goal of the season. WINONA, Minn. - In a stalemate for more than 83 minutes of play, NSU's Kirsten Saunders broke the game open with a goal against 14th ranked Winona State (9-3-0, 1-1-0 NSIC) on Sunday afternoon. FAYETTE, Iowa - The Wolves of Northern State (7-3-2, 0-0-1 NSIC) and the Upper Iowa Peacocks (6-5-1, 0-0-1 NSIC) tied 1-1 after two overtimes in their NSIC opener on Saturday afternoon. CROOKSTON, Minn. - In their highest offensive putout of the season, the Northern State soccer team scored seven goals in a 7-1 win over Minnesota, Crookston Saturday afternoon on the road. ABERDEEN, S.D. - The Wolves soccer team spared no time in scoring their first goals against MSU Moorhead Wednesday afternoon. Despite going scoreless through regulation and two overtime periods, the game was filled with action as the Wolves battled the soon-to-be NCAA Division I school. ABERDEEN, S.D. - Northern State freshman Maggie Fedor notched three goals in the Wolves 5-1 home opening win Saturday evening over Jamestown College (1-2). GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The Mavericks of Mesa State College scored four first half goals Sunday afternoon on their way to a 5-0 win over the Northern State soccer team. The Wolves had five shots on goal against Mesa, who finished second in the RMAC last season. The Mavericks out-shot NSU 19-8 in the game.

Northern State Ranks 1st in the Conference for 2006 Average Home Attendance

The Northern State Wolves soccer team ranks first in the NSIC in average home attendance with 196 fans per contest. The next closest was Winona State with an average of 193 fans per game. Northern State had 1,772 fans in nine home events this past season. The Wolves 196 average ranks them thirty seventh in Division II.
NSU Soccer Player Melissa Gamble Wins Prestigious Award

The South Dakota Sports Writers Association named NSU soccer player Melissa Gamble the college women’s athlete of the year award back in late December. This award started back in 1979 and has been dominated by track and basketball athletes, winning a combined 21 of the awards. Gamble is the first soccer player to win this prestigious honor.
