BASIC POLICY FOR BUSINESS AND OFFICE SKILLS CONTEST


 All tests will begin at the stated times.  Late arrivals will not have an opportunity for makeup. 

1. A limit of two students per school in each computerized contest event.  A three student limit per school has been set for written tests. 

2. A student winning a trophy in a prior year may not compete again in that same event. 

3. KEYBOARDING I (timed writings--possibility of a second test session).  One three, and five minute timed writings on PC using a typing program (instructions on its use will be provided - keyboarding skill is the only requirement to do well).  A student's best timed writing (using a one word deduction for each error per minute) in each of the one, three, and five minute categories is to be submitted for scoring.  Number of attempts on timed writings is limited only by the 50 minute overall test period. 

4. BUSINESS MATH consists of business mathematics problems.  Computations include invoices, averages, sales returns, percent of total, percent of change, markup, discount, and payroll.  Hand-held calculator allowed.  

5. ACCOUNTING I (hand-held calculator allowed), BUSINESS LAW, COMPUTER PRINCIPLES, and GENERAL BUSINESS are for those students who are currently enrolled or who have completed an introductory course in the appropriate area. 

6.  WORD PROCESSING TEST will use Microsoft Word in the Office 2003 version. 

7.  INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS will test students’ knowledge of international issues, geography, finance, economics, international organizations, law, and current events.

8. In case of first, second, or third place ties, the individual to receive the scholarship/trophy will be determined by a set of predetermined tie-breaking questions. 

9.  Team Trophies:  Top four places will be included in the team points calculations.  A point scale of 5 points for 1st place, 3 points for 2nd place, 2 points for 3rd place, and 1 point for 4th place will be awarded.  Trophies will still be awarded to first, second, and third place winners only.
