Northern State University

Dear Parent:

Every year the South Dakota State Supreme Court holds three court sessions at different locations across the state. Last year the Court held them at Northern State University. In 2007, the Court will meet on the campus of Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota on:

  • Mon.  1 October
  • Tues. 2 October
  • Wed. 3 October

The Justices hear a wide variety of important cases in these sessions and have invited your student’s high school to attend. Northern State University would like to invite your senior high school student to participate in a special 1-credit course offered in conjunction with the South Dakota State Supreme Court. This course is CJUS 192: Supreme Court Experience. The course is designed to deepen your student’s understanding of and appreciation for the American judicial system. Students enrolled in CJUS 192 attend one entire morning session (three cases) and then write case reviews appropriate for use in a wide range of high school American history, political science, sociology, speech, and debate classes. NSU faculty will work with your student’s teacher to integrate this material into their curriculum.

High school students will qualify for a special reduced tuition of $62 $40 for this one-credit opportunity. The course will be graded pass/fail and college credit will be awarded on a NSU transcript. Students are responsible for submitting all materials to the NSU faculty by Friday 26 October, 2007 as outlined in the syllabus at www.northern.edu/cas/supremecourt.

Application forms are available on-line.

DEADLINE EXTENDED!!  Interested students may now send their completed application form and payment by 15 September!

Class space is limited. Students will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Make checks payable to “Northern State University.” Please send applications and payment to:
