For those
who expect to work in the field of
aging, the deeper study of older people
and their varied needs in life will
provide a good basis for entry level
professional work. In most human service
fields, further graduate study toward
the applied terminal degree in a field
will be needed but a sociology major
with Gerontology as the focus will
qualify persons for career entry in many
health-related and services-related
occupations.

It is recommended that students be
active in campus activities, clubs,
volunteering and work while studying for
a degree. Excellent opportunities are
available in the Students of Social
Sciences (SSS) organization. The SSS
sponsors many student activities
including: speakers, employment
information, trips, community service
activities and much more.
Fieldwork in Community Services
(Internships) are excellent
opportunities to increase knowledge and
future employability. Anywhere from one
to twelve credits toward graduation may
be earned with an internship.
Pi Gamma Mu is the
International Honor Society for the
Social Sciences. Membership may be
earned by students with Junior status,
20 Social Science credits, a 3.25+
Social Sciences grade point average and
a 2.75+ total grade point average.
