Why does the process I am using not work
anymore?
If you have a problem with a process that had
been working and you have not rebooted your
machine recently, you may be able to correct the
problem by rebooting and trying the process
again.
How can I backup my data?
You can copy individual files to a diskette (or
a CD if your machine has a CD writer). For
critical data, you can put it in a private
subdirectory on the network (f:\users\xxxxxxx
where xxxxxxx is your login name) so that it
will be backed up during the regular network
backup.
A full network backup is done each Friday
evening with incremental backups on Monday
through Thursday evening. Five previous backup
tapes of each type are retained for recovery
purposes.
How can I optimize the memory on my
computer?
Log off every evening.
Closing unused applications is the most
important technique in effectively managing
memory in Windows NT/2000.
Do not use “push” technology applications such
as Pointcast, Yahoo’s Daily Ticker, or Real
Audio. They are constantly searching the
Internet and put an undue strain on your desktop
and the network’s DS3 feed.
Shutdown and restart your computer (as opposed
to just logging off) at least once a week.
Eliminate the bells and whistles on your
desktop. Memory intensive screen savers,
“electric sheep”, intensive color bitmaps as
background wallpaper, unusual sound schemes,
animated cursors all use a certain amount of
system resources.
What can I do to improve network
performance?
Limit the use of internet radio broadcasts and
push technology applications such as Pointcast,
Real Audio internet radio stations or Yahoo’s
Daily Ticker.
Do not forward large emails and attachments or
include original attachments when responding to
email unless required to do your job.
