Northern State University Wiring Project
Local Area Network Upgrade
The token ring network has been converted to a
switched 100mb ethernet network with a gigabit
backbone. A Network Protocol Analyzer was
installed to monitor network performance and to
provide trouble shooting assistance. Possible
future plans include the installation of a Layer
3 switch for improved performance.
Anti-Virus Software Upgrade
The Corporate Edition of the Norton Anti-virus
software has been installed. This technology
will push the latest anti-virus software updates
to the desktop without user intervention.
Wireless
The NSU Library has installed 2 wireless access
point units in the LIB213 lab and has purchased
20 laptops that can be used with these units.
Computer Services has purchased a wireless
access point with 5 laptops for use for special
events where the machines will be located in one
area, such as registration/fee payment.
