THE
LIFE AND TIMES OF JULIE
M. SCHMIDT
Just
who is Julie M. Schmidt,
and why does she use her
middle initial? I really
don't know the answer to
either of those
questions. Odd response?
Consider the source!
OK...I am 25 years
old (give or take a year
or 10 or 15). I was born
during a blizzard. I
have lived in South
Dakota my whole life and
in Aberdeen since 1980.
Still with me? Good.
Hmmm…my favorite
color is blue. I used to
think that blue as a
favorite color was too
predictable. I have gone
from having a penchant
for red and black as a
color combo and then on
to green (everything was
green...my car, my coat,
my bedroom), and now I
am into blue...cobalt
and navy mostly. Now
instead of predictable,
I deem it classy.
Now to the role of
Northern State
University in my
life...and it's BIG.
Most of my family
received degrees from
Northern...my father,
two sisters, a brother,
several nieces (I've
lost count). I attended
Northern State College
(as it was called back
then) from 1980 to 1983
and received a
bachelor's degree in
business with an English
minor. I have worked at
Northern since 1992...in
Financial
Aid, University
Relations,
and now as the Program
Assistant with the
NSU
Center for Statewide
E-learning,
which, I must say, is
extremely exciting to be
on the ground floor of
this recently
established program.
I have been a member
of the NSU
Alumni Association
board of directors since
1996 and served as
secretary for five
years. As a member and
previous officer of the
alumni association and
because of my long-time
association with the
university, I urge any
and all alumni and
friends to recognize, be
thankful for and be
proud of its positive
impact on your
life...hey, you most
likely got a job and
embarked on a career
because of this school.
Maybe you even met your
significant other on
Northern's campus. I am
sure you learned some
valuable lessons both in
the classroom and out.
So consider contributing
something back to your
alma mater...whether it
be money or time or
promoting NSU through
your business...there
are a lot of options.
Think about it, please.me
a moment as I s
Just a little bit
more about my
organizational
memberships...hang in
there, almost done! I
served on the NSU
Centennial Committee,
which was appointed by
NSU President John
Hilpert to work with all
campus constituencies,
the NSU Foundation, and
NSU alumni and friends
of the university to
develop programming to
commemorate Northern
State University's
centennial year in
2001-2002. Wow...100
years. That's a long
time, folks! Oh, and I
served as co-chair of
the NSU Centennial
Marketing Subcommittee.
In addition I have
been a member of the American
Association of
University Women (aka...AAUW).
I won't go into
detail...just click on
the link for more
information - you'll be
glad you did!
I won't tell you my
hobbies and interests as
much as I'm sure you're
aching to hear about
them, so, whew...I think
that about does it. If
you've made it this far,
thank you for staying
with me...if not, well,
you won't be reading
THIS, but thanx anyway
for clicking on my home
page!
