News O'Doan resigns as VP, Baruth takes over
Citing personal considerations, Northern State University Student Association Vice President Billie O'Doan recently tendered her resignation from the position eight months into her term. (Full Story)

Fund-drive focus of NSU Foundation
The Northern State University Foundation is currently underway with the university’s first capital campaign. The Foundation hopes to raise approximately $10 million with this new fund drive which is to be completed by September of 2001. (Full Story)

Supreme Court visits NSU
Upon receiving an invitation from NSU President John Hilpert, the South Dakota State Supreme Court held its October session in the Johnson Fine Arts Center October 23-25. (Full Story)

Marching band performs in Canada
Northern State University’s marching band, along with the flag corps, had an opportunity this past month they may never forget. Approximately 105 students packed up their instruments and gear and headed up to Winnipeg, Canada, to show off their music ability. (Full Story)

Toilet Truth
It is not to my social benefit that I am an English major. People expect my grammar and usage to be flawless, a very lofty expectation considering the mistake in word use that occurred in my last column. (If you didn’t notice, I’m not telling you.) Wolves look forward to battle of the borders
On Saturday, Oct. 28, the Northern State University Wolves hosted the Winona State University Warriors for their last home game of the season. The cold wind, dark skies and muddy field seemed to set the tone for the game, as the Wolves lost a close game in overtime, to end their dreams of a back-to-back Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference title. Wolf of the Week: Kristin Peterson
In her first season on the Northern State University cross country team, freshman Kristin Peterson, Arlington, has been running in stride and competing strongly. She has placed highly in the meets, receiving many second and third places, and recently placed second at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Championship, held on Oct. 21, in Aberdeen. Wolves soccer team loses in tournament
For the second consecutive season, the Northern State University soccer team stumbled at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in Marshall, Minn. With a 2-1 loss to the Wayne State University Warriors, the Wolves took an early exit from the tournament. (Full Story)

Wolves volleyball defeats UMD in five game thriller
Northern State University volleyball hosted the University of Minnesota-Crookston on Oct. 20 at home in Aberdeen. The Wolves won three games straight, 15-8, 15-1, 15-0. (Full Story)

Cross country finishes season in top 20
For the first time in the season, Northern State University’s men’s and women’s cross country teams hosted a home meet on Wolves territory. On Oct. 6, many visiting teams came to NSU for the Roe Granger Invitational at Swisher Field. (Full Story)

NSU hockey has successful opening weekend
The Northern State University hockey club is looking towards the future. After last year’s rebuilding season, the Wolves are ready to put the past behind them and make a new name for themselves in the world of club hockey. (Full Story)

The largest audience I’ve seen at an opening reception crowded the Isaac Lincoln Gallery to see a fascinating combination of sights and sounds. It was a welcome sight to see so many students, faculty and staff. (Full Story)

Music Convention held at Northern
Approximately 120 students and music instructors from around South Dakota gathered at the Johnson Fine Arts Center for the South Dakota Music Teachers Association Convention October 26-29. During the three days competitions, workshops and presentations were held. The event reaches Aberdeen every five years, rotating at the other state universities in South Dakota. (Full Story)

The Hopper a reliable ride for college student in Aberdeen
Something that started as an idea ten years ago has become a reality for Kelly Tracy, owner of the new taxi service in Aberdeen. The idea to help people has now become known as The Hopper. Kelly Tracy along with Lee Sumner bought the bus and began this new service. (Full Story)

From Your Student Association...
The Student Association has been very busy the past couple weeks. Because of unforeseen time constraints, Billie O'Doan, our Vice President, resigned her position effective October 31. As a result, the Senate chose Tori Baruth to step up and fill the vacancy. Tori has been involved with the Student Association for the past two years as a senator, and she will continue to represent the students superbly in her new position. (Full Story)

The mystique of the moon has sparked curiosity and has inspired humans to explore the world around them. Its dreamlike beauty has nurtured our imagination and has inspired us. It has had such a powerful effect on us, that our ancestors couldn’t help but worship it. On November 11, at 3:15 pm Central Standard Time, we will have a full moon.
