NSU receives Bush Foundation Grant
Northern State University received a grant from the Bush Foundation of Minnesota to support faculty development in teaching and learning. The grant will give NSU $100,000 per year for three years. After the three years are finished, there will be a renewal period in which NSU can reapply for another three years. This will most likely occur since the grant is for research in effective learning strategies. Obtaining research in this field is quite difficult due to so many variables such as the number of students in the class and the ability levels of the students. (Full Story)

We have a robbery in progress
I am just as sick of hearing all about this presidential scandal as you are, but it needs to be addressed. The American people are currently witnessing robbery on a grand scale and it needs to be stopped. If this were a small country in the Balkans somewhere and the same travesties were occurring, you can be sure the Clinton administration would have peace keepers in there faster than you can get a new intern. The Toilet Truth
My great-grandfather founded a deer hunting camp in the 1940s. Men from all over the region came every November to a log cabin in the middle of nowhere, just over the hill from a little town called Nemo, SD. They would trudge through snow knee deep in search of the biggest buck in the Black Hills. My great-grandfather brought his son, my grandfather brought his son, and my dad brought my sister and me. It’s a Schmitz family tradition. (Read Full Column)

Hope for the future
It was the most hotly contested Presidential election anyone in this country had ever seen. A bitterly divided nation could not render a clear decision on which of the two candidates they wanted to see take the reins of government for the next four years. Constitutional actions, which had only been discussed in hypothetical situations, were suddenly facing live fire for the first time. Observers wondered aloud about the possibility of the eventual loser refusing to yield the White House to his opponent, and cries of corruption and fraud erupted from both parties. Many feared the controversy would tear the nation apart and lead to the demise of the republic. (Read Full Column)

Aspen room impresses pesky food critic
I visited the Refuge last year for a restaurant review and came away from the experience with two main points which I passed on to my readers. First, the decor of stuffed carcasses covering every inch of wall space was a bit overbearing. The second was that the menu selection was somewhat limited but not bad overall. (Full Story)
