Students must maintain grades to earn financial aid
Federal regulations require that a student maintain satisfactory academic progress to receive Title IV federal student aid. Title IV funds include Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership Grant, Federal Work?Study, Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Stafford Loan, Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, and Federal PLUS Loan. Men split last two weekends, 2-2
Northern State University men’s basketball team had homecourt advantage against the visitors from Winona State University and Concordia-St. Paul on Jan. 19 and 20. Coming away from Friday night with a 97-84 loss from Winona, the men were able to conquer the Golden Bears, the next night, with a 101-75 victory. The front line of the Wolves stood strong throughout the game. (Full Story)

NSU wrestling working towards peak; goes 1-1 in triangular
With only three matches left before the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Championships, and less than a month to the Regional Tournament, which is the qualifier for Nationals, the Wolves’ grapplers are working towards peaking at the right time, and it looks probable that they will. Women's basketball has tough road trip
The Northern State University Women’s Basketball team struggled through the last several weekends buy dropping three of four conference games. This moved their record to 10-8 on the year with a record of 6-4 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. (Full Story)

Indoor track starts new year; places well at home meet
On Jan. 12 and 13, the Northern State University indoor track team traveled to Vermillion for the Hildebrandt Pentathlon and Saturday’s Invitational. Through tough competition, NSU was recognized in many events. (Full Story)

Located next to Econo Foods is an obscure little restaurant called RG's. I have driven past it a hundred times and never gave stopping for lunch a second thought. A friend of mine recently told me it is similar to the Millstone but with better food so I decided to give it a try. (Full Story)

Two NSU art students awarded scholarships
Two Northern State University art majors, Sarah Ernhart, Park Rapids, Minn., and Cody Marks, Aberdeen, recently received art scholarships. They were selected by NSU art faculty based upon their portfolio applications. (Full Story)

"Bohemian women from West River" featured at NSU
Paintings of the myths and legends of "Bohemian Women from West River" will be depicted in a traveling show by Mel Spinar, Sioux Falls, from Jan. 18 to March 1 in the President's Gallery in Spafford Hall on the Northern State University campus. When students experience problems with relationships, classes, or any other issues, who do they turn to? It has been found that students generally go to other students first. Peer education that enables students to be more effective helpers is the best way, then, to reach those who need help. (Full Story)

Schoen presents with NSU, MSU professors, is elected secretary at Counselor Educators Association
Dr. Jill Schoen, along with Dr. Jan Jirouch and Dr. Ruth Johnson, all faculty members in psychology and counselor education at Northern State University, recently attended and presented an experiential session at a conference for the North Central Association for Counselor Educators and Supervisors in Indianapolis, Ind. Science club auction earns money off NSU's most eligible
The Northern State University Science Club started off the new semester with a party. “We were trying to think of a good fundraiser and someone suggested a bachelor/bachelorette auction,” said Eric Trelstad, member of the science club. “Since we already had the Rainbow party planned, we decided to make that a part of it.” (Full Story)

Boyum among "100 who serve"
Rachel Boyum, coordinator of Volunteer Service Clearinghouse based on the campus of Northern State University, recently received the Firestone "100 Who Serve" award. As a result, a charity of her choice will receive a $2,000 donation from the Bridgestone/Firestone Trust Fund in her name, and she will receive a certificate of distinction.
