Aftermath: A response to the tragedies
Tuesday, September 11, 2001; a day that will never be forgotten. The days following the New York, Washington and Pennsylvania tragedies carry with them as much weight as the day themselves. The response of the nation, the community, and the campus has been something quite impressive. (Read full article)

NSU pulls the plug in Internet
During this past summer, Northern State University has pulled its plug on the Internet in the residence halls. The reason behind this was to ensure that the campus was safe from the “Code Red Scare”, a virus that attacked large servers and networks like the ones on the NSU campus. (Read full article)

The Year of the Elephant
I know that you are all probably sick of the word election right now, since we just found out who won the last one a few days ago. Unfortunately for all of you, I need to mention next year’s election because it will be a very important year for South Dakota. In fact the 2002 election shows exactly how important your vote is even though you may not think so. (Read full editorial)

The Rising Storm
I don’t know how many of you have seen the movie, “The Perfect Storm.” It is a pretty good movie, but not great. My roommate watched it all the time during the summer, so I have grown a bit weary of George Clooney with a New English accent. (Read Full Editorial)

A rose by any other name would be called Joe
Now that the summer has passed and fall has begun, it is invariably the time when just about every news agency and publisher in the world will take a retrospective look at the summer that was. There is no doubt that the dog days of 2001 will go down as the summer of the attack of the killer sharks, Gary Condit (attack of the stupid shark), and the-state-that-would-like-to-be-known-as-the-state-formerly-known-as-North Dakota (or attack of the just plain stupid). NSU professor responds to war on terrorism
I’m an active member of the Air Force Reserve. At the end of August, I returned from active duty at my assigned office in the Pentagon to resume my civilian career. Now, like other members of the Guard and Reserves all across the US who have been following this week’s events as closely as anyone, I hear this question: Are we going to war?

Our Voice: Alumni lead the way
As Gypsy week ends, the parade has passed, and the football game is finished; yet memories linger. Alumni and students have shared their favorite memories of NSU. (Read full column)

I've got a book of matches from the gas station
So I’m new here to The Exponent, right, and the first thing I get from people when I tell them that I work for the university newspaper is why? Reading that is like licking sandpaper, some do it and the rest just can’t seem to grasp exactly why. Is it the content? Is it the layout? Is it the writers? Are students just too busy to do more than thumb through it on the john out of boredom? (Read full column)

Bemidji State spoils NSU's Homecoming in barnburner
It took two overtime periods, over four hours of play, 93 points, 947 yards of total offense, 27 penalties, three blocked extra points, a 95-yard punt and a frantic final play that left the outcome in question for a few seconds before Bemidji State’s bench stormed the field to celebrate a 47-46 win over Northern at Swisher Field in Aberdeen Saturday. Something to see in the Presidents Gallery

Diverse artworks in Isaac Lincoln Gallery
In the Isaac Lincoln Gallery there is a wide array of works by artists which appear to be a little more edgy. With works that almost appear to be models for a Nine Inch Nails cd cover, artist Glen Riddle describes himself in his artist’s statement as a “post industrial shaman of these times for the people who would see my vision...” (Read full article)

Do you believe in the second part?
I love the movie, Dirty Harry. Many don’t seem to remember what a groundbreaking film it was upon its release. Yet, it remains a brutally honest portrait of the realities of modern American society.

Showcase: a welcome edition
Football... it permeates nearly everything surrounding the Gypsy Day festivities. I love a good football game, and there’s nothing quite like being part of a college community that rallies to support their team both on campus and from the stands. However, over the years I’ve often had the impression that something has been missing, and at the end of the Gypsy Day night I finally discovered what it was. (Read full article)

Not the same old thing form Aberdeen's new kid on the block
The Downtown Cafe is now one of Aberdeen’s newest eating establishments, and while you probably have not eaten there, there is a good reason for you to do so. Since I (along with my lovely and vivacious wife, Kimberly) have lived in Aberdeen, the building in which the Downtown Cafe resides has been home to at least three eateries. None of them were particularity memorable, so I shed no tears on their passing. (Read full article)

A voice form Germany
I’m scared. I won’t deny it. I - along with the entire world - have no idea whether my country is going to be declaring war. I do not want to be in a foreign land when/if this happens. I realize that I may actually be safer here as a German citizen than in the United States as an American. But that doesn’t stop me from yearning to be at home with my friends and family every minute of every day. (Read Full Article)

That you can petition the Lord with prayer
A white picket fence stands with a sidewalk void of cracks or dirty little crevices. Many flowers bloom, lining the brick path leading up to an oak porch. A chain-link swing looks out over a beautifully groomed lawn. A large, bushy ‘welcome’ mat outside the door to wipe your feet on and a feeling of warmth all around to cloak yourself in. Now a cool breeze and a glass of iced tea are just what you need to compliment the evening.
