Watches as Landmars is Destroyed
A flash fire
swept though the Central Building at approximately 2:00
a.m. Wednesday morning demolishing almost completely
the oldest building on the campus. The main effects
of the fire will be the loss of valuable records and
equipment and class time. (Read

Sequence
of Events Reveals Swiftness of Fire's Progress
After a checking and double checking, the watchman’s
watch stations, Dr. M.L. Meverden and the nightwatchman,
Gil Johnson, have clarified the time as to when the
fire, which absolutely left old Central a shell, started.
Dr. Meverden has made this written statement as a release
to The Exponent. (Read

October 11 brought the official beginning to the Center
for Statewide E-learning, along with the dedication
of the H.P. Gerber Education Building, and the donation

NSU,
in the kitchen, with the knife?
There has been some speculation that Northern State
University has been selling names to credit card companies.
However, registrar Peggy Hallstrom said the university
only gives out directory information, which includes
student names and telephone numbers, along with a great
deal of other personal information, to legitimate educational
organizations, such as the NSU soccer team, which delivers
cakes to students on their birthdays. (Read

MIS
488 gets mixed reaction
After
the first meeting of the much anticipated MIS 488 Careers
in the Electronic Age on Tuesday, Oct. 2, students have
voiced many different opinions at the subject. Some
students look on the extra credit as more work in their
already hectic lives. Others look at it as an opportunity,
a free credit, and something else to put on their resume,
for little effort. Many just have questions that need
to be answered. (Read

Legal
or illegal: The truth of 2by2.net unfolds
By the year of 2003, sales of the e-commerce internet
business have been projected to reach 9.5 trillion dollars.
So why not get your hands on some of the money? First
and most importantly, not all e-commerce money is obtained
legally. The e-world is full of schemes, pyramid and
otherwise. The question that remains is if 2by2.net,
an e-commerce business that has become the choice of
some NSU students, falls into the illegal category.

Making
Sense in the Light of Disaster: A Response
On Sept. 19
a letter to the editor from a Northern State University
student, whose name I will not mention, expressing concern
appeared in The Exponent. Though I respect the act of
writing a letter for publication that expresses someone's
personal views, I must say that I unequivocally oppose
the beliefs expressed in that letter.

This
looks like a job for Rambo
By the time
this edition of The Exponent is published, about a month
will have passed since Sept. 11. In that time we Americans
have felt a wide range of emotions from fear and grief
to rage and anger. The world around us has slowly started
to get back to normal. A painful reminder to me of just
how normal things are becoming is that both the Twins
and the Cubs were eliminated from playoff contention.

Finally
We Have a Foreign Policy Again
One of the
most important issues a president has to deal with is
the issue of foreign policy. Because of the recent terrorist
attacks, the importance placed on it has been even greater.
Fortunately for us, we have elected the right man as
president. Our president has made foreign policy the
top priority for our nation right now, as it should
be. (Read

Flag in Every Room
I remember starting kindergarten. Every morning we would

line of what the teacher called the Pledge of Allegiance.

Lesson
four: giving to charity
In light of the reaction to last months events,

price to bring out the best in us. (Read
