Anti-Terror
and Individual Rights
One of the
first things expressed concerning the war on terrorism
was apprehension by many people of the impact it could
have on our individual freedoms. In fact, one of the
things I noticed in the first Exponent after the attacks
was a student who was concerned that it could possibly
affect his first amendment rights. (Read

Civil
Liberties, Schmival Liberties
Before I start
dispensing my dosage of wisdom about the anti-terrorism
bill (the Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing
the Appropriate Tools Required To Intercept and Obstruct
Terrorism, or the USA Patriot Act), there are two things
I feel I need to say about some other current happenings.

The
Price of Patriotism
If there is
any good that can come out of the attacks of Sept. 11
it would be that Americans have recognized our police
and firefighters as the heroes they really are, and
that there has been a tremendous surge in patriotism.
The flag is everywhere: on coats, backpacks, sports
uniforms, and yes, even on underwear. People are singing
God Bless America and the Star Spangled Banner more
often and with more feeling. One can't help but wear
red, white, and blue at every opportunity. I say it’s
about time. (Read

Academic
emphasis will benefit NSU
The decline in enrollment and the tight budget issues
that face Northern State University are serious problems
that need to be addressed. Increasing enrollment would
raise the amount of monies available to improve this
institution. What needs to be done to increase enrollment?
The answer is simple; NSU needs to give their recruiters
more selling points to present to prospective students.

Sex.
That was all I heard about “A Little Night Music.” Not
knowing anything at all about the play but this one
thing, I was still a little unprepared for some of the
more racy scenes. This production truly is all about
sex, and the NSU theater department pulled it off with
style and flair. Laughter and tears, joy and anguish,
frustration and relief, and these were just the emotions
I felt sitting in the audience looking on. The cast,
crew, and musicians all did a wonderful job. (Read

Moscow, Russia: It’s
hardly surprising to learn of the Russian military’s

diplomatically, but recently the Red Army made a move
that will raise some eyebrows.
