Lim and student team recieve awards

Ruud Resigns as Dean

NSU volunteers make a difference
Millions of Americans across the country are expected to spend Saturday, Oct. 26 - the 12th Make A Difference Day - doing volunteer projects to improve their communities and help neighbors in need. On entering Mewalt-Jensen this year to find their classes, many students may have been a bit overwhelmed and confused. Due to the reconstruction going on there, many of the science classrooms have been moved to different locations. (Read Full Article)

NSU Forensics team shines at Concordia
The NSU Forensics Team traveled to their first tournament Oct. 4, to the Carol Gaede Talk of the Tundra Invitational, at the Moorhead campus of Concordia college. NSU placed 7th overall. (Read Full Article)

Johnson focuses on student issues
Student loans, grants... they are a way of life for many NSU students. Tim Johnson understands that many NSU college students have to obtain them in order to go to college. In fact, Tim put himself through school with student loans and believes no one should be denied a college education because of the high costs of post-secondary education. He is dedicated to the fight for affordable education.

Stereotypical music major not a "typical" music major

Once in a while, we get to take a class that meets in MJ, and that Wellness class is a requirement, so we even venture over to the Barnett Center for something other than a basketball game. Wolves volleyball carries on vicious schedule
The Northern State University Wolves volleyball is continuing the season with an increasing record. After defeating Bemidji State in three games, then taking a tough loss from the University of Minnesota-Duluth, the team hit it hard on Sept. 27 against Southwest State and rallied from 0-2 to a 3-2 match. Southwest had been the conference leader. Senior blocker Christi Lucas, White, had the game high of 22 kills, and senior setter Tara Sauter, Belle Plaine, Minn., tamed 55 set assists. Lucas earns conference honors
On Oct. 2 when the regional rankings were released for the first time this season, the Northern State University Wolves volleyball team was ranked tenth with a record of 8-10 in the NCAA II North Central Region. Leading the pack was Minnesota-Duluth, followed by a tie between Northern Colorado and the University of North Dakota. Sharing the fourth spot was South Dakota State and Augustana, Minnesota-Mankato in sixth, North Dakota State in seventh, Concordia-St. Paul in eighth and Nebraska-Omaha in ninth. (Read Full Article)

Wolves cross country runners claim glory at Invitational
Northern State University’s Kristin Peterson became the first runner from NSU to claim the top individual spot in the Roe Granger Invitational since 1988 with a first place finish at the 2002 event held Oct. 18 at Lee Park Country Club. (Read Full Article)

Wolves defense ranked fourth overall in the NSIC
Northern State University’s Wolves have split a pair of games in Conference action as they pass into the second half of their season. With a 2-4 record the Wolves have seen three games end with a deficit of less than eight points.  Their 2-2 conference record leaves them at sixth place in the NSIC standings. (Read Full Article)

A unique variety of colorful costumes and traditional African and Caribbean dances and music helped seven African-American dancers along with seven African-American musicians to bring the Johnson Fine Art Center stage to life on Oct. 9, as the Ko-Thi Dance Company performed courtesy of the Aberdeen Area Arts Council.

Lee Ann Roripaugh, an American poet, gave a poetry reading for students and staff sponsored by the English Club. Roripaugh read poems that had been published in her first volume of poetry, Beyond Heart Mountain and poems from her most recent manuscript, Year of the Snake. (Read Full Article)

NSU music recitals, art exhibits showcase
Northern State University student Carmen Cap, Yankton, will present a music recital at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 27, in the Berggren Recital Hall of the Johnson Fine Arts Center on the NSU campus.  The event, which partially fulfills the requirements for graduation with a bachelor’s degree in music, is free and open to the public. Lancaster: back at home in the Midwest at long last
What do you get when a handsome young sculptor meets a very talented and beautiful classical pianist?  The answer is Rodney Lancaster; both of his parents were educators in the public school system of St. Louis, Mo.  His mother was a classical pianist and his father a sculptor.  The interesting twist of this story happens not when young Rodney goes off to school and joins band in the sixth grade but rather when he becomes a jazz trombonist and lands a gig playing with Ella Fitzgerald at only nineteen years of age.
