SDEA recieves grant

Even Start program partnership
The Children's Center and Even Start are beginning a new partnership.  Even Start is a literacy-based early childhood program, providing opportunities for skill enhancement in the areas of literacy, parenting, job search and retention, early childhood education and networking with other families with a child(ren) under the age of 8 and at least one parent enrolled and attending Adult Education services.  Early childhood education, adult education, and home visits are core components of Even Start.(Read Full Article)

With Republican Bill Janklow being convicted of 2nd degree manslaughter and three other charges, South Dakota no longer has a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives. Now South Dakotans have to go to the polls on June 1st to see who will finish out his six months and be the candidate in the general election held in November.

Wolves drop close match with SDSU
The Northern State University wrestling team traveled to Brookings Jan. 8 to take on SDSU. SDSU was ranked seventeenth in the latest NCAA Division II wrestling polls going into the dual.  The NSU wrestlers pushed the Jackrabbits at every weight class but came up just short falling by a score of 21-19. (Read Full Article)

#15 SDSU 96 - Wolves 57

The Wolves (5-1) lost their first game of the season to nationally ranked SDSU (10-0) at Brookings’ Frost Arena. Head coach Don Meyer said, "they win the way they usually do; they ran the floor, shot the ball well and controlled the inside game" Sophomore Matt Hammer led Wolves scorers with nine points.(Read Full Article)

The Wolves improved their record to 5-1 after they defeated Chadron State (0-5). They had a 10-0 run in the first half for a 13-point lead. They had a lead as big as 34 points in the second half. (Read Full Article)

My big fat Lord of the Rings review
I sat down to do this week’s movie reviews and started to think over the movies I’ve seen in the past few months. While racking my brain (profound as it is), I came to the conclusion that Return of the King may have been so awesome, that it has ruined any movie I may see from now on. At least, that would explain why Cold Mountain was so bad. But then I started to think further. I then remembered that some movies just sucked, even before Lord of the Rings came out. So what does this mean? It means that Cold Mountain sucked and there is no excuse.

Disapperance of UND student draws attention to personal safety
The news of the disappearance of a University of North Dakota student is a reminder that bad things can happen anywhere.

According to the Find Dru Web site (www.finddru.com), Dru Sjodin, a twenty-two year old student at UND, was last seen Nov. 22 as she left the Columbia Mall in Grand Forks, N.D., where she worked.
