Wolves 8-Sioux Falls Cougars 0
The Wolves (1-0) won their season opener and home opener with a
shut-out on non-conference foe University of Sioux Falls Cougars
(0-1) 8-0. The Wolves played an excellent game, allowing only four
Cougar shots on goal compared to the 42 shots by NSU.
2004 NSIC new-comer of the year, Melissa Gamble led the team with
three goals for her second career hat trick. Suanne Lampert, Jill
Laydon, Skadi Davison, Kathleen Acunto, and Larissa Strychun accounted
for the rest of the Wolves scoring with one goal a piece. Leading
the team in assists was Liz Malatesta with three.
Wolves 5-Upper Iowa 0
The Wolves (2-0) remained undefeated as they defeated the Upper
Iowa Peacocks (1-1) 5-0. The tone was set by the Wolves’ defense
in the first half only allowing two shots. For the game only four
Upper Iowa shots were recorded compared to the Wolves’ 21. The Wolves
had a big lead going into the second half by scoring three times
in the first half.
Leading the Wolves in scoring was Strychun with two goals and an
assist. Kim Anderson and Heather Bartlett scored their first goals
of the year scoring one apiece. Melissa Gamble recorded her fourth
goal of the season during the contest as she was named NSIC’s Offensive
Player of the Week.
Wolves 2-Augustana 0
The Wolves (3-0) remained undefeated as they defeated the Augustana
Vikings (1-2) 2-0 to record their third straight shutout at Yankton
Trails Park in Sioux Falls. The Vikings have been shut out by the
Wolves in their last four meetings. Larissa Styrchun scored both
goals for the Wolves, one in each half. NSU goalkeeper recorded
four saves to keep the Vikings scoreless.
"Alexander has done a great job in the net for us so far this season,
but we have to credit not only the defense but all our players out
there hustling to earn the shut-outs," commented Head Coach Steve
Kehm.
#11 Minnesota State-Mankato 2- Wolves 1
The Wolves (3-1) lost their first game of the year as MSU-Mankato
(3-1) defeated them 2-1.
The Wolves gave up their first goal of the season when Jeana Luedtke
of MSU scored off a free kick 17:09 into the game. The Wolves only
goal came off a free kick by Suanne Lampert. Three minutes later,
MSU scored on a penalty shot that ended up being the game winner.
Both teams had six shots in the second half, but no goals were
netted.
The Wolves had 17 shots in the day compared to MSU's 18.
The Wolves are in action against University of Missouri-Rolla in
Maryville, Mo. on September 11.
